Local firefighters answer northern wildfire call

Date:

Morris, Carman and Miami departments aid Garden Hill efforts

Firefighters from southern Manitoba communities are continuing to support the province’s wildfire response efforts, with crews recently deployed to help battle blazes in the Garden Hill region.

Among those who responded was Dennis Rempel of the Morris Fire Department, who served from July 11 to 16 performing critical duties such as asset protection, bush fire suppression, extinguishing hot spots, equipment repairs and assisting with command operations.

“Town of Morris Fire Department feels it is important to contribute to our community and our firefighter family. We are blessed by our local community with much support,” said Morris Fire Chief Trevor Thiessen.

Rempel was joined by members from the Carman and Miami fire departments, forming part of a multi-agency team sent to provide backup in the remote area.

In addition to their support in Garden Hill, Morris Fire has also deployed two more members—along with their truck and a wildfire skid unit—to assist with firefighting efforts in Lynn Lake.

“We will continue to answer the call for deployment to support Manitoba,” Thiessen added.
