Susan Stein is the new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Town of Carman.
Stein commutes from Winkler, where she currently resides. She has lived in southern Manitoba for most of her life.
“I grew up south of Winkler in Rhineland and then moved north of Winkler until 18. I moved to Winnipeg for a few years and decided that the city life wasn’t for me,” said Stein. “I moved back to Southern Manitoba at the age of 22.”
In 2010, Stein embarked on her municipal career as the CAO for the Town of Plum Coulee. In 2015, when the communities of Plum Coulee, Gretna, and Rhineland amalgamated, Stein’s role changed, and she spent the next eight years as Community Development Officer for the Municipality of Rhineland and General Manager of the RPGA Planning District.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time working in Planning and Economic Development,” said Stein.
When the opportunity came up this year for the CAO position in Carman, Stein felt it was the right time to embrace the challenge, so she applied.
“I have been in Carman for about six weeks now. The warmth and hospitality of the staff, Council and residents have made the transition very welcoming.”
Stein notes that Carman’s Town Council is currently actively engaged in several projects.
“The arena is undergoing a substantial renovation, which includes the installation of a new ice plant,” said Stein. “Infrastructure improvements are being carried out in the Town’s industrial park. The Council is also focused on various housing developments, and along with this comes increased demands for water and sewer projects. And of course, as budget season approaches, we are gearing up to plan for the 2024 year.”
