The Access Aquatic Centre in Arborg is inviting the public to take a plunge and help celebrate the pool’s 15th successful year in operation.
The Arborg-Bifrost Parks and Recreation Commission is planning a celebratory weekend in August with an admission fee that will be rolled back in time, as well as fun activities for the whole family.
Recreation director Tom Chwaliboga said the commission is “most proud” of its staff who’ve served the aquatic centre over the past 15 years. They’ve helped bring in a whopping 10,000 kids for swimming lessons.
“The staff over the years have been excellent, especially when teaching swim lessons,” said Chwaliboga. “We have always received positive feedback from parents about how great the instructors are with the kids, and this is probably why we’ve had almost 10,0000 children enrolled in our programs over the years.”
In addition to swimming lessons, the Arborg pool provides residents from the local area and residents in other municipalities – as well as visitors from away – with an opportunity to cool down with a recreational swim, sink into a lounger on the pool deck and soak up the sun, enjoy a ride on one of the slides or dip under the spray pads. The pool also offers lessons for teenagers who want to become certified lifeguards. The facility can be rented by families, groups or organizations for private parties or other events.
“This has been extremely popular over the years, especially for birthday parties, as you get the whole pool to yourself,” said Chwaliboga.
The commission is responsive to community needs with regard to swimming and offers different programs to meet those needs, including an Aquasize class and a Toonie Tuesday admission. This year, Chwaliboga said the pool will be offering a “Girls Only” swim time slot every Wednesday evening from 6:15-7:30 p.m. starting on July 10.
“We’re trying this for a couple of reasons: we have received feedback that girls and women would be more comfortable in this environment and secondly [to accommodate] the diversity of our community and the need to adapt,” said Chwaliboga.
The public swim is scheduled every day (Monday to Sunday) from 1:30 – 6:00 p.m., and the staff are “looking forward to seeing you on the pool deck,” said Chwaliboga.
The pool’s 15th anniversary celebration is scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 9-11 with an admission rollback to what it was 15 years ago.
