Bezan sworn in for eighth term, reappointed to defence role in Conservative Shadow Cabinet

Date:

James Bezan has officially returned to Ottawa for an eighth term as the Member of Parliament for Selkirk–Interlake–Eastman and will continue to serve as the Conservative Shadow Minister for National Defence.

The longtime MP was sworn in this week and said he remains honoured to represent his constituents.

“This role is not one I take for granted,” Bezan said in a statement Friday. “With the trust of our constituents, I humbly return to Parliament to continue standing up for, and serving, the great people of our riding.”

Bezan was reappointed to the opposition defence portfolio by Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre. He said supporting Canada’s military and their families remains a top priority.

“It is a privilege to fight for those brave Canadians who proudly don the uniform to fight for all of us,” he said. “Our Conservative team will always put the safety, defence, and security of Canada first.”

Two other Manitoba MPs were named to new positions in the Shadow Cabinet: Kildonan–St. Paul MP Raquel Dancho will serve as Shadow Minister for Industry, and Dauphin–Swan River–Neepawa MP Dan Mazier takes on the health file.

“Our entire Conservative Shadow Cabinet is ready to push for the government to boost Canadians’ buying power through lower taxes and less inflation, unleash resources to bring home paycheques and production, secure our streets by locking up criminals, get immigration under control and unite our people under our proud flag,” Bezan said.
