Falcons outmatched twice by league’s top clubs

Date:

The Lundar Falcons fell victim to two of the Capital Region Junior Hockey League’s top teams in last week’s action.

The Beausejour Comets — last year’s league finalists — were the first to challenge the Falcons, in a road matchup Friday at the Beausejour Sportsplex.

The Comets struck twice midway through the opening period while Lundar struggled to generate offence. They extended their lead with a power-play goal midway through the second before adding two more unanswered markers in the third to seal a 5–0 win, handing Lundar its first scoreless game of the season.

On Sunday, the Falcons returned home to face the defending champion St. Malo Warriors, who entered the contest with a 2–0 record. The Warriors’ championship pedigree was on display early at Lundar Arena as they netted two first-period goals and added three more in the second to build a 5–1 lead. Ty Sadowski had the lone tally for Lundar in the middle frame.

Dayson McCreedy cut into the deficit with a third-period goal, but the Warriors responded quickly with two more to skate away with a 7–2 victory and remain undefeated.

With the loss, the Falcons dropped to 0-3-0-1-0 on the season and sit sixth in the CRJHL standings entering the new week.

They are scheduled to face the North Winnipeg Satellites and the Arborg Ice Dawgs in their next outings. Due to press deadlines, the score of Tuesday’s game against North Winnipeg was unavailable at press time. The Falcons will host Arborg this Sunday at 3 p.m. at Lundar Arena.
