Gimli New Horizons looks to expand membership with new website

Date:

Gimli New Horizons 55+ Centre is kicking off its new membership year with a fresh push to welcome more seniors through its doors – and onto its new website.

The energetic activity centre, which has grown to more than 500 members, offers over 20 weekly programs ranging from exercise and games to social gatherings. Its newly launched website, gimlinewhorizons.org, provides a one-stop place to learn about the centre’s history, membership details, program schedules, rental opportunities and special events.

“We’re encouraging people to check out the new site to see everything Gimli New Horizons has to offer,” said spokesperson Graham Watson. “It answers a lot of questions and shows just how much is happening here every week.”

Annual memberships are $25, with access to a wide variety of activities. New additions this fall include Kaiser card games on Wednesdays, Monday night darts, and bridge lessons starting in October. The centre is also hosting a free walking pole lesson Sept.  in partnership with the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority.

Two popular community events return this month: a fashion show on Sept. 18 and the fall supper on Sept. 21. Both require advance tickets through the New Horizons office.

Founded in 1974, the 7,600-square-foot facility celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. Beyond programming, the centre’s space is also available to rent for private gatherings.

Watson said the goal now is to reach more seniors across the region.

“Whether people are looking for physical activity, mental stimulation, or just a place to socialize, we’ve got something for everyone,” he said.

For details, visit gimlinewhorizons.org or follow Gimli New Horizons on Facebook. The centre is located at 17 Loni Beach Road in Gimli and can be reached at 204-642-7909 or gimli55@mts.net.
