Morweena’s Reimer back with Leafs at camp

Date:

James Reimer and the Toronto Maple Leafs are set for a reunion.

On Friday, the Maple Leafs announced the signing of the 37-year-old netminder to a professional tryout contract.

The Morweena native was a fourth-round pick by the Leafs in the 2006 National Hockey League Entry Draft and spent six seasons with the club before being traded to the San Jose Sharks during the 2015-16 season.

Since his days as a Maple Leaf, Reimer has played for the Sharks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, Anaheim Ducks and Buffalo Sabres.

A veteran of 15 NHL seasons, Reimer boasts a 225-187-65 record, a 2.89 goals-against average, a .910 save percentage and 31 shutouts in 525 career regular-season appearances.

He rejoins the Leafs following a 2024-25 season split between the Ducks and Sabres, during which he appeared in 24 regular-season games.

On Saturday, Reimer returned to Toronto donning number 47 during his first skate at Maple Leafs training camp.

His return comes just days after the Leafs announced goaltender Joseph Woll was taking a leave of absence from the club to attend to a personal family matter.

The Maple Leafs open the regular season at home against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m.
