Santa has breakfast with 420 people at Matlock Recreation Club

Date:

The Matlock Recreation Club hosted its popular annual Breakfast with Santa last Saturday that attracted over 420 people and featured a musical performance by Santa and a surprise visit from the Grinch.

Club president Brenda-Lee Walker said the free breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus is a long-standing cherished tradition for the community, and the event included photos and gifts for the kids.

The breakfast was a “resounding success” and ran seamlessly from start to finish thanks to the incredible support from an “exceptional team” of volunteers, generous businesses and other community supporters including firefighters, she said.

“The Matlock Fire Hall team started bright and early at 6 a.m., cooking up delicious pancakes and sausages, accompanied by oranges, juice, hot coffee and tea to serve to the excited crowd of boys, girls, parents, grandparents and caregivers,” said Walker. “With well over 30 volunteers on the day of the event, as well as 50-plus additional helpers who wrapped gifts, prepared candy bags and set up the hall, the day unfolded beautifully.”

As families enjoyed breakfast, Santa played Christmas carols on his ukulele then he and Mrs. Claus met one-on-one with the kids “sparking joy and smiles,” said Walker. Each child had their photo taken with the jolly couple from the north and received a goody bag and a gift.

“Adding to the fun, the Grinch made a surprise appearance, snapping photos with many of the children and delighting everyone with his playful antics. Over 220 children received gifts, thanks to the generous donations from our supporters,” said Walker. “This year’s Breakfast with Santa wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and hard work of all the volunteers who made the event memorable for everyone.”
