Breakfast fundraiser supports Christmas Cheer

Date:

The annual Holly Jolly breakfast fundraiser for the Winkler Christmas Cheer Board Saturday morning at the Central Station Community Centre was a success.

The event raised a total of $8,300, and the $3,000 contribution from Sun Valley brought the total raised to $11,300.

“We’re quite pleased with that,” said Winkler Christmas Cheer Board chairperson Crystal Rempel. “That’s up from last year, and we had probably surpassed about 300 people at the breakfast, so that was a great turnout.”

And while the fundraising aspect of it is the most important thing, it is also just good to see the community come together, she added.

“When there’s a common focus, it brings people together,” she said. “This is something that makes sense to everyone and brings the people together around the same table.

“We’re excited to do that in the community and for the community,” said Rempel, who noted the cheer board also got a further financial boost from the Sunday charity game between the Winkler Flyers and a team of Winkler firefighters.

Next up for the cheer board then is the SMILE cookie week put on by Tim Hortons the week of Nov. 16-22.
