Lundar’s All Canada Goose Shoot kicks off Thanksgiving weekend

Date:

The results are in for Lundar’s annual All Canada Goose Shoot. Twenty teams of hunters took to the fields on Oct. 11 for the nearly five-decade-long Thanksgiving weekend tradition.

“It was another very successful year — this event cannot take place without commitment and community support,” said secretary Kelsey Cocklin.

Teams set out early Saturday morning in search of the heaviest haul. The top three teams went home with shotgun prizes:

First place – 219.4 lbs: Josh Lussier, Hannah Lussier, Keifer Hazelton and Blake Adams

Second place – 216.4 lbs: Gerald McKay, Travis McKay, Joe Nordin and Mason Penner

Third place – 213.9 lbs: Mike Vigfusson, Colin Johnson, Ryan Einarson and Miles Johnson

The third-place team also bagged the heaviest goose of the year, weighing in at 13.6 lbs.

Hard-luck honours went to Austin, Ethan, Rene and Dan Christensen, while Claude Foster, Farrell Pott, Lorne Erickson and Glenn Gudmundson earned bragging rights for the smallest goose.

In total, hunters harvested 337 geese for a combined 3,087.1 lbs.

“We also had a total of 14 teams come in with their limits — we believe that’s a record in the history of our goose shoot,” Cocklin added.

She extended thanks to the many volunteers who made the event possible, noting that a full list is posted on the committee’s Facebook page.

“And lastly, I’d like to thank the committee — without all your hard work and dedication, this event wouldn’t happen,” Cocklin said. “You’re a great crew to work with, and we look forward to making the 50th Lundar All Canada Goose Shoot one for the books.”
