Christ Church rings in the season with annual Christmas Tea and Bake Sale

Date:

The Christ Church was filled with Christmas cheer at their annual Christmas Tea and Bake Sale on Nov. 29.

Featuring a variety of home baked goods, trays of sandwiches and other yummy eats prepared by Selkirk’s Christ Church members, Jo-Ann Moffatt, Christ Church People’s Warden said this is a yearly tradition both she and the community look forward to.

“We receive compliments from people saying this is how they start off their Christmas season,” she explained. “Our tea has grown not only to be just a fundraiser for the church’s ministries, but also a community-wide celebration. Just seeing people come out and be with other really just gets you into the mood for the Christmas season–– it’s about being there for the community.”

A silver collection bowl was placed at the entry, with all proceeds supporting the church’s projects and outreach initiatives.

The tea is held close to the first Sunday of Advent, and members of the congregation work for weeks beforehand gathering silent auction prizes, preparing baked goods, and organizing the space to make sure the day runs smoothly.

“There’s a lot of work involved, but we have such a good, well-rounded group of people who step up and help out with everything,” Moffatt added.

She wants the community to know that Christ Church is a welcoming place–– either for their events or for worship. “It’s important for us to be there for others as we want to remain visible and active for those who need it.”

Christ Church holds services every Sunday at 9:30 a.m., and all are welcome. The church also invites the community to its Christmas Eve candle-lighting service on Dec. 24 at 4 p.m.

“We are always looking for ways to connect with the community,” Moffatt said, adding that the church hopes to continue offering events that bring people together during the holiday season and throughout the year.
