Raiders to battle for seeding after clinching playoff berth

Date:

The Raiders Jr. Hockey Club has secured a spot in the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League playoffs for the second consecutive season.

Last week, the Raiders clinched their playoff position following the River East Royal Knights’ elimination from contention.

Currently, the Raiders hold the eighth and final playoff spot with 34 points this season. However, they still have five games remaining, providing an opportunity to surpass the Stonewall Jets, who also have 34 points, and the St. James Jr. Canucks, who have 39 points, before the playoffs begin.

On Sunday night, the Raiders also picked up their 15th victory of the season, defeating the Pembina Valley Twisters in Morris.

The Twisters got out to a 1-0 lead in the first period before Owen Lourenco scored on the powerplay 58 seconds into the second period to tie things up.

The Raiders then went on for a shorthanded goal from Devon Whiteside and an even strength marker from Andrew Denoon before Denoon added an empty netter later in the third period to seal it 4-1.

Raiders’ Owen Savoie stopped 27 of 28 in the victory.

The Raiders now get ready for a pair of upcoming home games this weekend on Friday and Sunday against Ft. Garry/Ft. Rouge and St. James.

Upcoming Games:

Friday, Feb. 21 vs Ft. Garry/Ft. Rouge Twins, 7:30 p.m. at Seven Oaks SportsPlex

Sunday, Feb. 21 vs St. James Jr. Canucks, 2 p.m. at Seven Oaks SportsPlex
