Royals return to WHSHL action after break

The Lord Selkirk Royals return to WHSHL Platinum Promotions Division action this week following the holiday break, opening a busy three-game stretch on the road.

Selkirk resumes play Monday, Jan. 12, travelling to Steinbach for a 2:45 p.m. puck drop, before continuing the road swing Tuesday, Jan. 13, with a 4:30 p.m. matchup at River East. The Royals then return home Thursday, Jan. 15, when they host Sturgeon Heights at 4 p.m.

Lord Selkirk enters the week sitting ninth in the Platinum Promotions Division with a 7–7 record, positioned in the middle of the standings as teams ramp up for the second half of the season.

Royals remain last after road losses 

The Selkirk Royals remain at the bottom of the MWHSHL Division East standings after a pair of road losses last week.

Selkirk was on the road Wednesday, Jan. 7, falling 4–2 to the WKC Wolverines. The Royals got on the board midway through the second period when Kennedy Simpson scored at 12:51, and added a powerplay goal late in the third from Emily Beattie at 1:12, assisted by Mikayla Clarkson and Simpson.

The Royals were back in action Friday, Jan. 9, dropping a 10–4 decision at the Dakota Lancers. Simpson led Selkirk’s offence with four goals, scoring once in the first period, twice in the second, and adding another midway through the third to account for all of the Royals’ scoring.

Through 16 games, Selkirk sits last in Division East with a 2–14 record.

The Royals return home Monday, Jan. 12, to host College Jeanne-Sauvé at 4 p.m., before heading back on the road to face Gabrielle-Roy on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 4 p.m. Selkirk closes the week Friday, Jan. 16, with a 3:30 p.m. road game at River East.
