The Stonewall Jets drew the short straw with having to play the top two teams in the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League this past weekend.
They ultimately dropped both to the St. Boniface Riels and Transcona Railer Express.
They did however piece together respectable performances, showing they can hang with the league’s best.
On Thursday it was a 6-4 loss to the Railers in Stonewall that was won by a four-goal third from the road team.
Evan Deprez and Rylan Slatcher scored Stonewall goals which had things knotted up at two through 40 minutes.
Cohen Cheung and Karson King also scored for the Jets but the big third by Transcona made for a deficit too large to overcome.
On Sunday the Jets headed south to Winnipeg where they played through nearly two periods without a goal.
The Riels were the ones who broke the ice late in the second frame which is how things remained all the way through.
The Jets fell 1-0 the final despite outshooting the Riels 36-33.
Losing both games last week drops their record to 6-6, however they remain tied for fifth in the MMJHL now through 12 games.
Upcoming Games:

Friday, Nov. 14 at St. James Jr. Canucks, 7:30 p.m. at Ab McDonald Arena
