It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Larry Possberg’s Gunton home.
For over five years, Possberg has been lifting Gunton’s spirits with his impressive light display.
With what started as a light-up and animatronic ferris wheel, his display has expanded to include over 15 moving pieces to celebrate the holiday season.
“Gunton has always been a well decorated town and I wanted to join in on the fun. I started with the ferris wheel, and the display has only grown ever since.”
This year, Possberg gave the community a sneak peek of what they can expect at his display. He and his son put together a float for the Teulon Christmas Lights Drive-thru Parade using a select number of pieces that you would find at his Grunton home.
“My son suggested putting a float in the parade, so we jumped on the idea.”
He said that the float was more work than he was expecting, but the duo managed to set up the animatronics over the course of two days.
“At the house, we have quite a bit more and we add a little bit to it every year.”
Possberg’s 2024 display is now officially set up. He explained that it usually takes ten days to assemble, wire, and display his festive animatronics.
“I do about a week’s prep work in the garage getting everything put together. Then I bring out the tractor to put it out. They are all made out of steel so they are very heavy. I normally spend three days placing everything.”
He has always had a passion for handy work and likes playing around in the garage. “I like to be kept busy. I will weld and build everything, and my wife does a lot of the painting and artwork.”
Possberg can’t even estimate how many lights he uses on the display. “The two small light up trees have over 1000 LED. I guess if I ever get bored I could try to figure out how many lights are here!”
Even picking a favourite structure poses a challenge. He receives many comments on the ferris wheel, but when people visit the display they all have a different favourite.
You can visit Possberg’s light display at 78 Gunn St., and while you are there, be sure to visit the other decorated homes in the community. “It’s worth a drive to see all the decorations here,” added Possberg.
His yard lights up nightly from 4 to 9:30 P.M. It will be decorated until Jan. 1, when he will disassemble everything and put it in the shed to store for next year.
