Warren drops three on the road, falls in shootouts twice

Date:

The Warren 67’s came up short in all three of their games last week, including a pair of shootout losses, as their search for a first win of the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League season continued.

Warren opened the week in St. Jean on Nov. 19 in a back-and-forth battle with the Red River Mudbugs that ended in a 6-5 shootout loss. After Red River scored just 23 seconds into the game, Warren responded quickly with goals from Colton Bruce and Logan Flannery to take a 2-1 lead. Bruce added his second of the night late in the first, and Justin Braid scored midway through the second as the 67’s stayed neck and neck with the Mudbugs. Bruce completed his hat trick at 3:21 of the third to put Warren ahead 5-4, but Red River tied it and eventually won the game in the shootout. Warren goalie Dallas Shaver made 36 saves in the losing effort.

The 67’s traveled to Landmark on Nov. 22, where the Blues’ power play proved the difference in a 10-4 loss. Warren opened the scoring on a goal from Evan Roy, but Landmark struck back with three straight and carried the momentum through the second period. Landmark scored five times in the frame, including two on the power play, and added another pair of goals in the third. Warren mounted a small push with goals from Quinn McKnight, Brennon Chartrand and Kane Zarichanski, but Landmark’s offensive pressure was too much. Warren netminder Preston Laschyn faced 52 shots and finished with 42 saves.

On Nov. 23, Warren pushed Steinbach to a shootout in a tightly played defensive game at the Southeast Event Centre but again came up one shot short in a 2-1 decision. Neither team found the back of the net in regulation or overtime, with Laschyn turning aside 35 shots for Warren and Aaden Boulay stopping 31 for Steinbach. In the shootout, Drew Heide opened the scoring for the Huskies and Colton Bruce responded for Warren. Cole Mistelbacher eventually scored the winner for Steinbach in the fourth round, handing Warren its second shootout loss of the week.

The 67’s sit 0-11-0-2 on the season with two points, trailing Landmark (seven points) and Mitchell (eight) in the lower half of the standings. Macdonald continues to lead the league at 14-0, followed by Springfield and Ste. Anne.

Warren returns home this week for a three-game homestand, beginning Wednesday, Nov. 26 against the undefeated Macdonald Swarm at 8 p.m. at Access Credit Union Arena. Landmark visits Saturday, Nov. 29 at 8 p.m., followed by Mitchell on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 5:45 p.m.
