Dawson Cowan is off to a sensational beginning to his University of Nebraska Omaha career.
In just the second game of his college career, the Warren native stopped all 32 shots he faced in Omaha’s 2-0 win over then No. 3 Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs on Nov. 15 at AMSOIL Arena.
The shutout goes as the first of the NCAA career for the 20-year-old. He was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Rookie of the Week for Nov. 10-16 for his efforts.
The win marked Omaha’s fifth of the season and second with Cowan in net.
He now has wins over two top-20 opponents having backstopped Omaha to victory over then No. 15 Colorado College in his NCAA debut on Nov. 1.
Omaha also played this past weekend, dropping a pair at home to No. 8 Western Michigan.
Cowan made 28 saves on 31 shots in Saturday’s 4-2 loss to the Broncos.
Omaha now hold a 5-7 record. Cowan holds a 2-1 record with a 2.35 goals against average and a .932 save percentage, along with the shutout and Rookie of the Week accolade.
Omaha plays this Friday and Saturday at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, CT against the Yale Bulldogs.
