Altona town council will be finishing out its term one member short.
First-term councillor Cheryl Dueck has stepped down from her role.
Mayor Harv Schroeder shared a statement on the matter last week:
“On behalf of council and the residents of Altona, I want to express our sincere appreciation to Councillor Cheryl Dueck for her service to the community,” he said. “At the end of 2025, Councillor Dueck shared her decision to resign for personal reasons, and we respect her privacy.
“Over the past three years, she has dedicated her time and energy to council and to our community, and we are grateful for her contributions. We wish her all the best.”
Given that the next municipal election takes place this October, council has opted not to hold a by-election to fill the seat.
Council now consists of Mayor Schroeder, Deputy Mayor Jordan Siemens, and councillors Craig Smiley, Donna Rosling-Wolters, Tammy Braun, and Perry Batchelor.
