Altona man arrested in Brandon area fentanyl bust

Date:

An Altona man is facing charges in connection to a drug bust that occurred near Brandon a year ago.

On Jan. 25, 2024, Brandon Police Service and RCMP members seized over nine kilograms of fentanyl from a traffic stop on the Trans Canada Highway.

The BPS Organized Crime Section (OCS) continued the investigation, which led to the identification of two additional persons believed to be responsible for the arrangement, coordination, and transportation of the fentanyl that was trafficked into Manitoba from Alberta.

On Dec. 17, a 27-year-old woman from Brooks, AB was arrested in Calgary for the offence of conspiracy to traffic a Scheduled I substance (fentanyl) contrary to Section 465(1)(c) of the Criminal Code & Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  She was released and will appear in court next month.

A 28-year-old Altona man was taken into custody Jan. 3 at Stony Mountain Institution for the same offence/charges. He was remanded into custody to also appear in court in February.

Police believe the pair were responsible for the acquisition and transportation of approximately 15 kilograms of fentanyl between the dates of Dec. 23, 2023, and Jan. 25, 2024, nine of which were seized by police on Jan. 25, 2024.

Brandon Police send thanks out to its partners in Correctional Services of Canada, Public Prosecution Service of Canada, RCMP in Falcon Lake and Brooks, AB, and the police services of Winnipeg, Winkler, Calgary, and Altona for their assistance in this investigation.
