Communities come out to support Camp Day

Date:

An annual nationwide tradition that raises funds to send children to camp, Tim Hortons’ July 16th Camp Day brewed more than just coffee in the communities of Morris and Altona.

For the first time, Morris Tim Hortons partnered with YFC Morris to host games on-site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  that encouraged local families to come out with their families.

“Caring so much about kids is important,” said Mikayla Wiebe, summer staff member with YFC. “YFC loves to pour into supporting youth as much as we can.“

Later in the afternoon, YFC director Jack Wiebe brought a group of youth who attend Zone, the organization’s weekly Wednesday afternoon program for students in Gr. 5-6.

In Morris, $2,888.84 was raised from the sale of all hot or iced coffees, Camp Day donuts, and bracelets. Customers could also support by rounding up their orders or purchasing a Camp Day badge.

In Altona, local RCMP Sergeant Shawn Tarnick helped serving and selling bracelets at the drive-through window, contributing to the $2,222.33 raised.

Camp Day raises money for underserved youth to help build resilience, courage, leadership and confidence.

“We send kids of a certain age group from underprivileged families to camp for a fun learning experience,” explained Sunny Patel, general manager at the Morris location. “This fundraising is not only for the Tim Hortons Foundation Camps—Camp Day is about community. We hope to gain more spots for local kids in the future.”

Patel hopes to see even more partnerships with local organizations next year to help identify and encourage youth they work with to apply.

“We can request additional applications at camp if we have youth that can attend,” he said. “At the end of the day, the goal is to encourage community support of local low income youth.”
