Back on Cue Theatre readies fall comedy-drama

Date:

]Back on Cue Theatre has set the stage for its fall production, announcing the play, dates, venue and cast.

The Carman-based troupe will perform The Horizon by Tim A. Pullen on Nov. 7 and 8 at the Carman Collegiate Community Theatre.

Back on Cue director Faye Harms said the comedic drama — set in a retirement community where a change in management sparks a resident revolt — blends humour and realism.

“Parts of this drama are likely playing out in our community at any given time,” Harms said. “The playwright says, ‘Growing old is inevitable! Growing up is optional.’”

Nine cast members have been selected: Jeff Knight, Deana Gauld, Christan Froese, Evelyn Hoogerdijk, Lisa Pinkerton, Craig Blagden, Jaclynn Knight, Jim Robson and Gail Aubin. A volunteer crew will handle stage construction, props, costumes, programs, marketing, sponsorships and more.

Producer Lee Collingridge said the group relies on many hands to bring the play to life.

“It takes a huge team effort to pull this together — from the actors learning their lines to the volunteers behind the scenes making sure every detail is ready,” she said. “The support we get from the community is what makes it all possible.”

Back on Cue will again partner with local restaurants to offer its popular “Dinner and a Show” option.

Last year’s performances funded the materials to build a portable storage facility, constructed by the group’s members. Collingridge said the next goal is securing a rehearsal facility large enough to accommodate a stage, a recurring challenge for the troupe. Once that need is met, proceeds can again be directed back into the community.

Members recently performed for 300 diners at the Long Table Dinner, with proceeds supporting local causes.
