Carman Wellness Connections launches endowment fund to sustain community work

Date:

A new endowment fund has been created to support the long-term work of Carman Wellness Connections Inc. (CWC), a volunteer-driven charitable organization that addresses poverty and its root causes while promoting well-being across the community.

With contributions from Boyne River Keepers, Carman Communities in Bloom, and private donors, the fund will provide lasting support for public education, prevention initiatives, and community-led responses to social challenges.

“This endowment is about ensuring that the work of Carman Wellness Connections can continue well into the future,” said Lisa Lehmann, CWC coordinator. “By investing in long-term sustainability, we can keep addressing the issues that lead to domestic violence, poverty, and hardship in our community every single day.”

CWC’s mission is to build a thriving, inclusive community by tackling complex challenges such as housing instability, food insecurity, and financial stress. The group leads six community Working Groups focused on practical, long-term strategies. Its work is grounded in values of respect, empowerment, best practices, sustainability, and shared responsibility.

The endowment was inspired in part by the tragic loss of Amanda Clearwater, her children and her niece in February 2024, a case of domestic violence that deeply affected the region. The community responded by rallying around CWC’s mission to strengthen prevention, education and advocacy.

“By contributing to this fund, residents are helping build a future where everyone can live, learn, work and play in a community that supports them to thrive,” Lehmann said.
