Young softball players from across the region will have a chance to sharpen their skills this winter as Central Energy Softball hosts its annual Pitching and Skills/Hitting Winter Clinics at the Meridian Exhibition Centre.
The indoor program runs over 12 weeks from January through March, with sessions scheduled Jan. 4, 11, 18 and 25; Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22; and March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. One-hour sessions will be held between noon and 3 p.m., with athletes placed into appropriate time slots based on age and skill level.
Central Energy Fastpitch is widely recognized as one of Canada’s premier softball organizations, highlighted by recent national success that included a silver-medal finish by its U15 girls team at the Canadian Championships.
The winter clinics emphasize modern, sequential training methods designed to help athletes build skills progressively while keeping sessions engaging. Organizers say the goal is to “put the fun into fundamentals,” with personalized instruction and meaningful athlete interaction throughout the program.
Pitching instruction will be led by Jenn Smith, a Softball Manitoba CanPitch instructor, multiple-time NSIC Myles Brand Academic All-American and coach of the 2025 U13 Central Energy team. Skills and hitting sessions will be delivered by Ray Mutcheson, a veteran coach who spent eight years with Team Manitoba, is a former Manitoba Baseball Coach of the Year, and has extensive experience as an MLB scout with the Minnesota Twins. Mutcheson also has a long history in softball, coaching numerous regional female athletes who have gone on to compete at the university level.
