Community to celebrate Friends and Family Playground grand opening Sept. 24

Date:

After more than a year of planning and community collaboration, residents will gather later this month for the grand opening of the rejuvenated Friends and Family Playground, dedicated to the memory of Amanda Clearwater and her children — Bethany, Jayven and Isabella.

The upgrades were delivered under The Clearwater Memorial Playground Project, which raised funds and coordinated volunteers for improvements at Friends and Family Playground. The site now features accessible equipment, a memorial stone and turtle sculptures, honouring the lives lost and the legacy they left behind.

The Clearwater family tragedy in February 2024 shook Carman and surrounding communities. Amanda and her children’s lives were cut short in circumstances that brought deep grief but also an outpouring of compassion and solidarity. The community has since rallied to ensure their memory is honoured in a meaningful way.

The playground project — rooted in love, remembrance and resilience — transforms sorrow into a space for joy and reflection. “This has been a true labour of love,” said Lisa Lehmann, coordinator of Carman Wellness Connections Inc. “Through the tireless efforts of volunteers, donors, community partners and local leaders, we’ve created a lasting tribute that inspires resilience, unity and hope.”

The grand opening celebration is set for Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 3:30 p.m. at Friends and Family Playground. The event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, community speakers, cake and lemonade, and family-friendly activities. Everyone is welcome to attend and share in this moment of remembrance and hope.

For more information or to arrange an interview, contact Lehmann at lisa@carmanwellnessconnections.ca or 204-750-8214.
