Have a jolly pancake breakfast with Santa Dec. 6

Date:

Santa is coming to town for Carman Homestead Co-op’s Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 6.

From 9 to 11 a.m., Santa will make a special stop at the Carman Community Hall, sitting down for a jolly feast of pancakes, sausages, fruit and drinks with local families.

Proceeds from each plate sold will be donated to the Carman and Area District Cheer Board, with a suggested contribution of $5 per person or $20 per family. Photos with Santa are not included in the fee.

Carman Cheer Board chair Deana Gauld said Breakfast with Santa is an integral part of the organization’s annual fundraising efforts. This year, the board is purchasing enough food for 165 hampers.

“Homestead Co-op is truly a fantastic partner,” she said. “They help us by purchasing our items at sale prices, storing it until packing day, and of course delivering it all. They allow us to borrow shopping carts as well. On top of all that, this breakfast will give our bank account a boost. The secret benefit of the breakfast is the discussions families have about the need in our community, and the extra advertising for our cause.”

Gauld added that it’s important for her and other volunteers to give back because they see firsthand the impact holiday financial stress has on families, especially through her work at an elementary school.

“I really want every family to be able to have a happy Christmas. The holidays can be difficult as everything is more expensive — we all feel that. If our organization can make things even just a little bit better at Christmas for someone, that makes my Christmas better,” she said. “I hope that all the littles and their families make a wonderful memory with Santa at the breakfast.”

Mackenzie Gaultier Photography will be onsite to take professional photos of families with Mr. Claus, offering a variety of digital and print options in front of her festive backdrop.

Other festivities throughout the morning include visits from Cooper the Bear, Co-op’s mascot; giveaways from the RCMP, Carman-Dufferin Fire Department and Golden Prairie Arts Council; along with games and craft tables for families to enjoy.

“Kids will also get a free treat bag that our Carman Food Store team puts together for us with some special treats,” Gauld added.

She extended her gratitude to everyone who supports the event and offered a special shout-out to the Carman Collegiate Youth in Philanthropy group, which sets up and takes down the tables and chairs in exchange for a donation from Homestead Co-op.

“We really appreciate their help with this each year.”

Anyone unable to attend Homestead Co-op’s Breakfast with Santa but wishing to support the Cheer Board may email carmanchristmas@gmail.com to learn what items are most needed. E-transfers are accepted, with tax receipts available.
