Kid’s Biz Camp returns to Carman Aug. 18–22

Date:

Young entrepreneurs to create and sell at Farmers Market

The ever-popular Kid’s Biz Camp is returning to Carman this summer, giving youth ages 9 to 12 a chance to become budding entrepreneurs in just five days.

Hosted by Community Futures Heartland, the 2025 camp will run from Aug. 18 to 22 at the Carman Arena from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The $100 registration fee includes all programming, activities and materials.

Campers will spend the week learning about business fundamentals, from coming up with ideas and developing products to budgeting, marketing and sales. The week wraps up with a pop-up market on Friday, Aug. 22 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Carman Farmers Market, where participants will have the chance to sell their creations to the public.

Last year’s camp saw 12 enthusiastic youth dive into the world of entrepreneurship through engaging activities and hands-on mentorship from Community Futures Heartland staff and local business professionals. Campers created and sold products such as jewellery, magnets, artwork, cards, stickers and more—many selling out before the market closed.

“This is the day all their lessons come together to help them succeed at their new business,” said Penny Schoonbaert, CFH’s Community Economic Development Coordinator. “They learn that marketing is important, but presentation and a ready smile go a long way, too.”

Alongside business training, kids also enjoyed outings like mini-golf, bowling and swimming, plus special visits to local businesses like Boyne River Bistro and PKF Lawyers. Guest speakers shared valuable lessons in personal finance, customer service and goal setting.

“The support we receive from the community is key to the success of this camp,” Schoonbaert added. “We want kids to learn, but also to have fun—and that wouldn’t be possible without the many local businesses that open their doors to us.”

Space is limited for this year’s camp. To register or find out more, email heartland@cfheartland.ca.
