The Town of Arborg council discussed issues ranging from festival storage needs to future sidewalk improvements during its regular meeting on Aug. 27.
Council acknowledged correspondence from Brian Cox of Assiniboine College regarding the Early Childhood Education program and from Justin Charrier of Predator Athletic Interlake Throws, who submitted a donation request. Both items were received as information.
“No action was indicated from council regarding the Early Childhood Education correspondence, and it was received as information,” said Cindy Stansell, Town of Arborg CAO.
Under business arising from delegations, MLA Derek Johnson was noted for his recent municipal visit.
Council also considered a request from Susan Bauernhuber regarding storage for the Arborg Street Festival. The group plans to purchase a shed to store festival items and asked for a location on the recreation grounds.
“The request was referred to the operations manager and public works chair to review options,” Stansell said.
A presentation by Marcel Sutyla concerning the William Street sidewalk was also discussed. He asked council to consider installing a sidewalk between Second Avenue and River Road, citing new development west of William Avenue and increased pedestrian traffic.
The Town of Arborg has completed its 2025 sidewalk projects and does not have additional budget for this request.
“Council agreed to consider the matter during 2026 budget deliberations,” said Stansell.
Council also authorized the signing of an agreement with the Manitoba Water Services Board for design work on the Arborg Water Treatment Plant Filtration Upgrades. The work is expected to be completed by spring 2026.
“This design work is now underway, with expected completion in spring 2026,” Stansell said. “The Town of Arborg has applied to the Manitoba Water Services Board for the filtration upgrades, and we are just waiting for this design work to be completed along with approval of funding from the Manitoba Water Services Board.”
