Bochurka scores overtime winner in Ice Dawgs bounce-back victory Sunday

Date:

It was a difficult start to the week, but the Arborg Ice Dawgs responded with a strong performance to close it out in Lundar.

The Ice Dawgs dropped their home contest Friday night against the Selkirk Fishermen at Arborg & District Arena after falling behind early and struggling to recover.

Through 20 minutes, the Fishermen led 5-0 while outshooting Arborg 12-3. The Ice Dawgs settled in during the second period, outshooting Selkirk 14-12 despite surrendering another goal.

Hunter Loewen and Brandon Burak finally broke the goose egg in the third with a pair of Ice Dawgs goals, but the home team ultimately fell 7-2 for their fourth loss of the season.

The bounce-back effort came Sunday afternoon in Lundar, where Arborg started strong against the Falcons.

Dainen Jacobson opened the scoring less than two minutes into the first period, then added a shorthanded tally in the middle frame to put the Ice Dawgs up 2-1.

After Lundar tied it again, Burak restored the Arborg lead late in the third to make it 3-2 with under five minutes to play. The Falcons answered just 30 seconds later to send the game to overtime.

That’s when Ice Dawgs forward Eastyn Bochurka buried the winner off an assist from Tytan Johnson, lifting Arborg to a 4-3 win.

Bochurka’s first of the season secured the Ice Dawgs’ first victory, improving their record to 1-4-0-1-0.

Arborg will now get a short break before facing the Falcons again on Friday, Oct. 24, with puck drop set for 8 p.m. at Arborg & District Arena.
