Bringing back togetherness with annual parade and picnic

Date:

Fraserwood Hall to host annual day of fun on June 22

Nine years ago, Tanya Mishtak decided she wanted her children to have the same experiences she had growing up in Fraserwood. One of her fondest memories was the annual picnic her family attended each year—an event that brought the community together.

Now, nearly a decade later, the tradition continues with the annual Parade and Picnic at Fraserwood Hall, set for Sunday, June 22.

The day of festivities kicks off at 9 a.m. with a pancake breakfast prepared by Fraserwood firefighters and sponsored by Access Credit Union. The parade and picnic will begin at noon.

Activities will run from 1 to 6 p.m. and include children’s games, a craft area, races, bounce houses, a silent auction, a toonie toss, a game of tug of war, and a dunk tank. All proceeds will support the Fraserwood Fire Hall.

Adding to the fun, there will be a full canteen and bar, free slushies donated by J & J Store, and free ice cream cones donated by Armstrong Construction. DJ Trevor Ewankiw will provide music throughout the day. Madeline’s Closet has also contributed prizes and treats for candy bags that will be handed out at the hall.

“The picnic I grew up with was always held at the sports club. I rode in the parade on my decked-out bicycle. I remember the music and the festive feeling of the community coming together,” said Mishtak. “The hall needed a fundraiser, and this seemed like the perfect event to bring all ages in the community together again.”

The event aims to give back to the community’s children and build a tradition they can carry forward. Activities are designed for all age groups.

Anyone wishing to donate a silent auction prize or enter a float in the parade is asked to contact Tanya Mishtak at 204-642-2182.
