A Gimli high school student shared appreciation for her positive experience through Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority’s internship program.
Freyja, who is now in Grade 12, had the opportunity learn about occupational therapy at Gimli Community Health Centre.
“My favourite part of occupational therapy is the endless opportunities. Within this job, you are able to work with a variety of different people and places. I wasn’t certain what I wanted my future career to be, but I knew I didn’t want to have a job with a specific path and limited options — I wanted some flexibility, which is exactly what occupational therapy allows,” Freyja said.
“Overall, I truly did enjoy this internship and I am highly considering occupational therapy as a future career.”
Lori Buors, Indigenous human resources officer, said the occupational therapy and physiotherapy department has welcomed many internship students over the years.
“I would like to thank Karen Wood, health services manager for home care and allied health therapy services, and all her staff for welcoming students in their department to job shadow,” Lori said.
“Throughout the years, there has been an increase in internship and summer students wanting to choose a career in occupational therapy and physiotherapy. IERHA needs these services to help patients regain quality of life.”
