Lundar Ag. Society hosts live auction Oct. 4, consignments still accepted

Date:

The Lundar Agricultural Society will host its first-ever consignment auction Oct. 4, bringing together community members and bidders for a day of sales and socializing.

The event takes place at the Lundar Agricultural Society grounds at 82-419 PTH in Lundar, with gates opening at 9 a.m. Auctioneer Tyler Flawinski of Ashern Auction Mart will start the bidding at 10 a.m., with in-person sales running throughout the day. Online bidding for select goods begins at 1 p.m. at www.dvauction.com.

“This is our first swing at this, but it’s been our dream all along to have a live community auction,” said Lundar Ag Society board member Mike Kostyshyn. “The whole community has always been so supportive of us and we figured it would be a nice way to involve everyone and draw them all together again.”

A wide range of items will be on the block, including farm equipment, tools, household goods, antiques and vehicles. Among the highlights are tires, saddles, a motorcycle and a side-by-side. Lunch, snacks and beverages will be available at the concession stand.

Kostyshyn said the auction is not only a fundraiser but also a way to make better use of the facilities.

“We have these facilities and we want to be able to put them to use,” he said. “The more times we get to use them throughout the year means the more we can offer to the community and surrounding area.”

Aside from the annual fair and a handful of smaller events, he noted, the rodeo grounds often remain quiet. The auction will help change that while raising money through a small commission on each item sold. Sellers receive the remainder of the sale price, with no buyer’s fees attached.

“We want to make this a social experience for everyone to enjoy, so they get to keep what they’ve earned minus the commission,” Kostyshyn said.

Consignments are still being accepted. Item drop-offs can be arranged by calling or texting 204-792-2938, 204-886-7683 or 204-739-8042. Volunteers will also be on-site at the fairgrounds Sept. 27 and Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., to accept items in good working condition. No books, clothing, livestock, food, car seats, strollers or cribs will be accepted.

The grounds will open Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for item viewing ahead of the auction.

“Come and check everything out ahead of time so you have something to be excited for,” Kostyshyn added.
