Lundar set to host annual All Canada Goose Shoot this Thanksgiving weekend

Date:

Twenty eager teams are locked and loaded for Lundar’s annual All Canada Goose Shoot, taking place Saturday, Oct. 11.

The long-running Thanksgiving weekend tradition has been drawing hunters to the region since 1977, offering friendly competition, local camaraderie, and a full weekend of community events.

“It’s a day for people to get together and have a little fun outdoors,” said organizer Kelsey Cocklin. “For many, it’s something they look forward to all year.”

Participation is capped, and earlier this year hunters had to apply for a chance to secure their spots. The final roster of 20 teams was determined through a field draw, adding an extra layer of anticipation for those selected.

Festivities kick off Friday, Oct. 10, with a community dinner at the Lundar Legion. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5. Tickets will be available at the door. During the evening, teams will receive their designated hunting areas, followed by a Calcutta auction, where spectators can bid on the teams they think will bring in the biggest haul. A silent auction will also take place, with proceeds supporting local organizations and community projects.

The hunt begins bright and early Saturday morning, with each participant allowed a limit of five birds. After the teams return, a weigh-in will determine the winners. The top three teams with the heaviest hauls will claim bragging rights and prizes, including a new shotgun for the top-scoring crew.

“Our goose shoot is for more than just hunters,” Cocklin emphasized. “There are plenty of chances for the whole community to get involved and celebrate with us.”

The All Canada Goose Shoot remains a cherished fall event that honours local heritage, promotes outdoor recreation, and fuels community pride—continuing nearly five decades of Thanksgiving weekend tradition in Lundar.
