Man arrested after house fire on Little Saskatchewan First Nation

Date:

A Winnipeg man is facing several charges after RCMP responded to a house fire in the early hours of Dec. 8.

Gypsumville RCMP were called to a residence on Keewatin Road at 1:21 a.m., where the local fire department was already on scene working to contain the blaze. The home was destroyed.

Police say the homeowner was away at the time but had received communication from an acquaintance who allegedly uttered threats toward her and her residence.

A short time later, officers located and arrested a 30-year-old man nearby. RCMP say the suspect attempted to flee on foot and resisted arrest but was taken safely into custody.

Gavin Anderson, 30, of Winnipeg has been remanded and charged with arson, uttering threats, resisting arrest and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Gypsumville RCMP continue to investigate.
