The third annual Gimli Red River Métis Day drew crowds to Gimli Pavilion Park on Saturday, where community members gathered to celebrate Métis culture, heritage and resilience in the spirit of Truth and Reconciliation.
The event, held in the lead-up to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30, featured traditional foods such as bannock tacos and smokies, a variety of artisans and vendors, and live entertainment. Performers included rapper Nucky JMC, Eddie Fleury & The Breeze, the Kinew Youth Dancers, Dean and Marilyn Davis, and Morgan Grace.
Visitors also took in beadwork, crafts, preserves, and other locally made items while children enjoyed a bouncy castle and games. Organizers said the day provided an opportunity to reflect on the legacy of residential schools, while also honouring Métis identity and contributions in the Interlake.
The celebration was supported by community partners, local businesses and volunteers, with proceeds from raffles and sales helping to sustain cultural programming in the region.
