New clothing store opening later this month in Ashern

Date:

More affordable choices for clothing are coming to Ashern.

Three local sisters, Susan Altman, Donna Sabiston, and Sandra Stolwyk —are opening a new clothing store in town at 8 Main Street. Sassy Sisters Inc. will offer all types of clothing and footwear for people of all sizes, and prices at the shop are assuredly affordable.

After coming across a clothing lot sale, Altman, Sabiston, and Stolwyk decided to see how well the items would sell at local sales. They had a few successful home yard sales and had a great response at the Ashern Rodeo, so the sisters decided to look into taking their new business further and filling a gap in town.

“There’s nothing out there for that and the community needs it,” said Altman. “And we realized by having the yard sales just how much the community needed it.”

Sassy Sisters Inc. will have something for everyone. They’ll carry clothing for men, women, girls, boys, and infants, including shoes, socks, underwear, tops, bottoms, dresses, outerwear, workwear, bathing suits, and more. Altman said the store is also getting in one shipment of toys before Christmas so more families can shop local this holiday season.

“Our biggest thing is trying to keep things affordable,” said Altman. “I myself have four children. I lived in Ashern when I had four young children and I know what it’s like to try and find things affordable in town. I know the struggle, so we want to keep things affordable for everybody, especially the children’s clothing and shoes. Parents can shop local and it’s worth their while to.”

Clothing will range from extra small to plus sizes, with limited availability in the plus-sized items. Things in the store will range in price from $5 to $80, with all children’s clothing staying under $20 per item. The more expensive items, Altman said, will be the larger adult items like jackets.

Before moving in and opening, Sassy Sisters Inc. didn’t have to change much in their building. The storefront will remain the same, with only the cash counter likely being moved. Altman said they’ll look at redecorating in the new year once they have a gauge for the business.

The new clothing store is slated to have its grand opening on Nov. 20. A week later, changing rooms will be installed so people can have the full shopping experience.

“We’re locally grown, us girls,” said Altman. “And that’s what the community in Ashern is all about: supporting new businesses and people in the community.”
