Upcoming byelections for Bifrost-Riverton and West Interlake

Date:

Byelections will be held in two Interlake municipalities, the Municipality of Bifrost-Riverton and the Rural Municipality of West Interlake, after councillors stepped down.

Shawn Magnusson stepped down from his Ward 1 seat with the Municipality of Bifrost-Riverton.

The municipality will be accepting candidate registrations for that ward between Friday, April 11 and Tuesday, May 13 at the municipal office in Arborg.

Prospective candidates must register with the senior election official before they accept contributions, incur expenses, fundraise or borrow money for their campaign, according to the byelection notice.

The municipality will be holding its byelection on Wednesday, June 18.

The Bifrost-Riverton municipal office is located at 329 River Rd in Arborg.

Registration forms can be obtained from SEO Jan Larkin by phone at (204) 641-0329 or by emailing: janlar5001@gmail.com

The Rural Municipality of West Interlake has two candidates running for its Ward 1 seat, which was left vacant when councillor Keith Lundale stepped down late in 2024 after he sold his property in the municipality and was required to resign his seat based on municipal rules.

Janice Anderson and Walter Whiteside are the two candidates running for the seat.

There are a number of voting options such as advance voting (April 16 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Eriksdale Recreation Centre), mobile voting stations at the Eriksdale PCH, Friendly Villa, Leisure Lodge, and Lindell Manor on April 21 (times will be posted at the facilities), and sealed envelope voting by applying to the senior election official in person between April 7 and 29  or by applying in writing, fax or email until April 18.

For more information about the West Interlake byelection and voting options, contact SEO Myrna Little by phone at (204) 941-0156, by email: seo@rmofwestinterlake.com or in writing: Box 10, #10 Main Street, Eriksdale, MB R0C0W0 or by faxing (204)-739-2073.

The West Interlake byelection will be held on Friday, May 2 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Eriksdale Recreation Centre.
