Vidir Solutions Inc. has been chosen again this year as one of the province’s best workplaces for its progressive business environment and forward-thinking human resources programs.
The family-owned company with locations north of Arborg and in Teulon earned a spot in Manitoba’s Top Employers 2024 competition that’s run by Mediacorp.
This is the third year in a row that Vidir Solutions was chosen as one of Manitoba’s top employers, said Carissa Rempel, who is the company’s program manager, human resources and public relations and who plans a variety of social events for employees.
“Some of the reasons we are continually chosen for these awards are our company events and activities, our commitment to learning and development, our safety culture, as well as many other benefits and perks related to culture and environment,” said Rempel.
Vidir Solutions co-owners Sid Dueck and Peter Dueck said being honoured for the third time comes down to the company’s talented leadership team and the recognition of employees’ contributions.
“We have an incredibly talented and committed leadership team in every area at Vidir Solutions. Our HR department is very active, strong, and very committed to bring out the best in all our employees,” they said in a joint statement. “We realize the value that each employee brings to the success of the business.
Companies that are designated as one of Manitoba’s Top Employers 2024 are chosen by Ontario-based publisher Mediacorp Canada as a way to highlight employers’ progressive workplace initiatives and best practices. Mediacorp organizes the contest in different regions of the country, including Manitoba, which is now in its 18th year.
Employers have to submit an application and are then evaluated on criteria such as work atmosphere, health, financial and family benefits, vacation and time off, training and skills development, and community involvement. They are also compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive programs.
Thirty-five Manitoba companies were chosen in 2024, including Red River Co-op and Access Credit Union.
Vidir Solutions is a family-owned company that started as a small machine shop on a farm north of Arborg in 1979 and is now in its 38th year as a manufacturer with 234 employees. It manufactures vertical motorized storage carousels and display systems that are distributed worldwide in over 40 countries. It has installed over 40,000 of its products, which are used by industries such as retail, construction, medical, government, automotive, printing and manufacturing.
The Duecks said they create a sense of community within the company by offering activities during the workday and outside of work. These include lunches, potlucks and the celebration of employee birthdays with a cake.
“Away from work we have numerous family events where we gather to socialize. The biggest one is always our Christmas dinner that is for the whole family to enjoy with special kids features. Over the last couple of years, we have had these Christmas parties at the Fort Garry Hotel followed by a night’s stay at that hotel,” they said. “In the summer we do things like a family pool party, Vidir at the movies, Vidir at Mary Poppins Rainbow Stage, Vidir at Activate and many more fun family events.”
The company values the welfare of the community, taking part in fundraisers and providing sponsorship for local events.
“It is very evident in our local communities of our support in a lot of different areas like recreation, the heritage museum, our local Bridge [outreach] for youth and the creation of a small Elizabeth Dueck Family park among many other things,” they said. “Our community at large is very important to our organization and this creates a sense of community within our organization.”
The company values its staff diversity and is committed to high employee satisfaction. It offers generous compensation options for employees.
