The Boyne Regional Library’s Summer Reading Program is designed to encourage children entering kindergarten to Grade 12 to maintain their literacy skills throughout the summer break.
When children register for the Summer Reading Program, they will receive ten ballots to enter into ten grand prize baskets. On Aug. 28, the Library will draw one name from each basket and contact the winners.
The theme for this summer is “An Adventure on Every Page.” A book is an adventure that can take readers to new worlds, whether in a fictional universe or a real place on Earth. Readers can explore new characters and places, ideas, and surprises. Just like an adventure, a book can expand a reader’s perspective while teaching them something new.
“This summer, we invite children and youth to explore the Boyne Regional Library and embark on An Adventure on Every Page,” said Boyne Regional Library staff member Scarlett Friesen. “We want to encourage children and families to read for pleasure.”
Another goal of the Summer Reading Program is to help welcome new residents and patrons to the Library as they would like to establish the Library as a vital part of community life.
“The Summer Reading Program is a great way to introduce families to the resources available in the library,” said Friesen.
If you are entering Kindergarten through Grade 12, you are eligible to register for the Summer Reading Program. Stop by the Boyne Regional Library from July 2 to Aug. 24 to register.
Each week, there will also be a reading or library challenge that, if completed, will grant an extra ballot to enter. Children with a guardian who already has a library card can enter for free, as can children who live in the Town of Carman or the RM of Dufferin. There are also free summer memberships for children who live in the RM of Grey. Other municipalities may reimburse for a membership.
