A fire that broke out last week in a structure attached to Zan’s Family Inn and Restaurant is not thought to be arson-related, according to the RCMP.
Zan’s is a popular restaurant located just west of Arborg, near the junction of highways 68 and 7. RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Melanie Roussel said “arson is not suspected.”
The fire was reported to Gimli RCMP.
“On Oct. 9, 2025, at 7:30 p.m., Gimli RCMP received a report of a fire at a business on Highway 68 in the RM of Bifrost,” said Roussel.
No further information about the fire was available from police.
Arborg-Bifrost Fire Department chief Jeff Pearce told the Express the structure that caught fire is a house attached to the side of the restaurant. A post on the Arborg-Bifrost Fire Department’s social media says the Riverton-Bifrost Fire Department also attended, and the two departments — both staffed by volunteers — responded quickly. That timely response saved the restaurant.
“Arborg Bifrost fire department and Riverton Bifrost fire department responded to a structure fire last night at the famous Zans family inn and restaurant,” says the post. “The response time was quick from both departments and the main business was relatively unscathed due to the fast actions of the responding teams. We wish Zans a quick recovery and continued success.”
