Vidir Vertical Storage Solutions earned a number of awards this year for going the distance as an employer.
Vidir Solutions (both its Arborg and Teulon locations) was selected for the second year in a row as one of Manitoba’s Top Employers for 2023. It was also selected as one of Canada’s Top Small and Medium Employers for 2023.
“We are one out of 100 companies selected across Canada,” said Carissa Rempel, program manager, human resources and PR, “and we were one of only two product manufacturers selected.”
The company designs and builds motorized vertical storage units and carousels for industries including manufacturing, construction, automotive, medical and retail. It has sold its products in over 40 countries.

It was chosen for the awards for a number of business practices that include workplace diversity, staff support and incentives, and charitable giving.
Vidir Solutions provides a maternity leave top-up of 95 per cent for up to 17 weeks, actively recruits women and newcomers, offers free language classes in the workplace to newcomer employees and also pays for half of their time in the classroom, provides employee development incentives that include generous tuition subsidies (sometimes covering an entire university education) and is committed to helping charities with a minimum of 10 per cent of its profits donated each year, said Rempel.
The company’s HR team at both its Arborg and Teulon plants was recently awarded a Unity Award from CPHR Manitoba [Chartered Professional in Human Resources] for promoting women in a male-dominated industry, said Rempel. Other finalists for the award included Red River College, the City of Winnipeg and New Flyer Industries.

CPHR is an organization that advances the human resource profession. It offers a number of HR Excellence Awards annually for business and professional excellence. The Unity Award, under the business excellence category, recognizes employers for advancing diversity, inclusivity and accessibility at work. It looks at a culture of inclusion, advancing truth and reconciliation and removing barriers to access.
For its charitable giving in 2023, Rempel said Vidir Solutions will be focusing on Arborg’s river trail, Teulon’s daycare, the Canadian Food Grains Bank, the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital and MEDA [Mennonite Economic Development Associates].
The company rewards its hard-working staff with a number of fun social events and outings each year.
The company recently rented the Scotiabank Theatre in Winnipeg and held a Vidir at the Theatre Day where staff watched a movie and got free popcorn, candy and drinks. It also held a Jets Whiteout Playoffs Contest to see which location (Arborg or Teulon) had more spirit. Teulon staff won and were treated to a pizza party.
“Some upcoming events in the next two months for employees include a cultural potluck, pickleball day with live music and food, a food truck day and a pool party,” said Rempel. “Vidir is also paying $100 towards all of their employees’ children’s tuition to summer camp this summer.”
