Hnatiuk Law joins forces with PKF Lawyers in Selkirk merger

Date:

A well-known Selkirk lawyer is entering a new chapter while keeping his roots firmly planted at home.

Andrew Hnatiuk, founder of Hnatiuk Law, has merged his practice with PKF Lawyers, bringing expanded legal services to the region without leaving the community he’s proud to serve.

The move brings expanded services to 183 Main St. to local clients while allowing Hnatiuk to stay rooted in the community where he grew up and continues to live.

“PKF approached us about the idea, and it really just made sense,” said Hnatiuk. “We were outgrowing our space, and this allows us to keep growing without compromising how we serve our clients.”

Hnatiuk opened his firm in 2020 with a vision of providing client-focused legal support in his hometown. Over the years, he became a trusted first point of contact for many Selkirk residents. Now, he said, the merger allows him to offer more in-house services—including family law, litigation, criminal defence, and complex corporate transactions—areas he previously had to refer to Winnipeg-based firms.

“I have always had really great support from the Selkirk community and want to continue building those connections with the PKF team,” he said.

The transition has been smooth. All existing client files have been moved to the PKF office, and the staff remains unchanged—with one exception. Hnatiuk’s wife, who served as his receptionist, has stepped away from the role to pursue personal goals.

“It has been really nice to have that recognition from a big firm like PKF,” Hnatiuk said. “It means we have that feedback where they want to see us as a team, and not as competition anymore.”

One of the biggest changes for Hnatiuk is being able to step back from the administrative side of running a business.

“I’m looking forward to focusing more on legal work again,” he said. “Managing HR and office logistics was taking time away from my clients—and from my wife and four kids. This new role gives me space to be more present both professionally and personally.”

Though his name is now attached to a larger firm, Hnatiuk said his values remain the same.

“I still want to remain client-focused, right here in Selkirk,” he said. “We’ve always been active in the community, and I want our customer and community service to remain at the heart of my practice.”

He emphasized that PKF Lawyers shares those community-minded values and expressed confidence the merger will be a positive step forward for clients.

“I hope people see this as a gain, not a loss,” he said. “We’re keeping services local. I know this community, and I want to preserve that connection.”

For Hnatiuk, the merger also comes with a meaningful personal tie. The new PKF Lawyers location sits on the site of the former Brown’s Bakery—where his wife’s grandfather once worked.

“I think it’s really neat that I have that connection,” he said. “There’s history here.”

All calls and emails to Hnatiuk Law are now being redirected to the PKF Lawyers Selkirk office. Clients can continue to reach him at 204-482-3921 or via email at ahnatiuk@pkflawyers.com.

“I look forward to continuing to serve all we can,” Hnatiuk added. “We love being a part of this community, and I’m really excited to continue on this next chapter.”
