Marine Museum to host historic feast aboard S. S. Keenora Sept. 13

Date:

The Marine Museum of Manitoba is offering guests a chance to step back in time with a one-of-a-kind dinner fundraiser aboard the historic S. S. Keenora on Sept. 13.

Sponsored by Packers Women’s Fashion, the immersive evening features a 1950s-inspired three-course roast beef dinner recreated from menus once served to passengers aboard the Keenora.

“We have a wonderful evening full of live entertainment, fantastic cocktails, and delicious food,” said Shay Nordal, Marine Museum manager. “It’s not just a dinner –– it’s an experience.”

The dinner, catered by the Selkirk Golf Course, will include a roast beef meal with all the fixings, a fresh salad, and “Pie Lady” pies for dessert. Vegetarian and vegan options are available with advance request.

“This is a very unique event in the sense what we are serving is based off the original menu served to passengers aboard the Keenora in the ’50s,” Nordal explained. “What those passengers ate then, is exactly what the passengers will be served now.”

Guests can choose between two seatings: 4:45 to 6:15 p.m. or 7 to 8:30 p.m. Meals will be served aboard the Keenora, creating what organizers describe as a fully immersive dining experience.

Passengers are invited to arrive 45 minutes before their seating to enjoy hors d’oeuvres sponsored by The Foot Shop, live entertainment by Double Bourbon, and a cash bar with cocktails on the Marine Museum docks and aboard the Joe Simpson boat. Debit and credit cards will be accepted.

“Get ready for your original Keenora-inspired meal by meeting and mingling with other guests as you enjoy a cocktail and free entertainment,” said Nordal. “With the purchase of your ticket, you are certainly setting yourself up to have a good time.”

Tickets are $100 each, with a $50 tax receipt included. Seating is limited to 60 guests per time slot, with tables arranged in groups of six. Larger groups of up to 12 may be accommodated if space allows.

Tickets are available through the Marine Museum’s website until Sept. 5, www.marinemuseum.ca/events-programs/s-s-keenora-authentic-dining-experience/

Organizers encourage early purchases as the event may sell out. Proceeds support museum operations, including ship restorations and the development of new exhibits.

For those unable to attend, donations can be made online to support the Marine Museum. For the remainder of the year, all contributions will be matched towards the Marine Museum of Manitoba-Heritage Trust Endowment Fund.

“We strive to make this a unique place for everybody to enjoy, so thank you to everyone who is supporting preserving Manitoban history,” Nordal said.
