Oakbank RCMP responds to serious collision near Deacon’s corner

Date:

Submitted by Manitoba RCMP

On Aug.17, at 9:38 p.m., Oakbank RCMP received a report of a serious collision on Provincial Road 207, near Highway 1, at Deacon’s corner in the Rural Municipality of Springfield.

Officers attended immediately and observed a 4-door sedan on the southbound shoulder, facing south, with extensive front-end damage. A semi truck, with no trailer attached, was parked ahead and had a warped frame.

The investigation has determined that the semi truck was turning south on Provincial Road 207 from Birkett Way. As it was turning, the driver felt a hard impact from the back. A 4-door sedan had struck the back of the semi truck.

The driver of the semi truck, a 31-year-old male from Calgary, was not injured. The driver of the sedan, a 27-year-old male from the RM of St Clements, was transported to hospital in critical condition. He is now stable but remains in hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries.

The 4-door sedan was unregistered and had no driving lights on. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this collision.

Oakbank RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
