Rotary Club and Red Bomb help feed community

Date:

This year’s Selkirk and District Rotary Club and Red Bomb Fireworks garden was once again a huge success in providing fresh produce to those in our community. Despite a dry start to the summer and smoky weather, 315lbs of vegetables were grown. Rotarians put in the hard work early on, watering the crops every second day until the rain finally came. Donations were split between Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen, which received donations of vegetables throughout the summer, and the Selkirk Food Bank, which received a large donation of 159 lbs of delicious locally grown vegetables on Oct. 6. The Rotary Club’s voluteers as well as Red Bomb Fireworks, who provided the land, tilling, and water for the garden during the summer season are the reason this was able to happen. Over the past five years, this project has really helped to fight food insecurity with a total of 2692 lbs of food grown.
