Selkirk Biz celebrates a successful Black Friday weekend

Date:

The winner of the Selkirk Biz Black Friday draw was picked at Packers Fashions on Dec. 2, 2025. Congratulations to Ida Zabinski from Selkirk, who won a grand prize valued at over $4000. The Selkirk Biz Black Friday Weekend was another great success as shoppers took advantage of local savings to fill their holiday gift-giving needs. The event launched in 2012 and aims to keep people shopping in the Interlake and supporting local businesses. At the launch of this event, now 13 years ago, Selkirk made the CBC National News with Wendy Mesley, talking about how the city was doing it right when it comes to finding a creative way to combat cross-border shopping. With the exception of the pandemic, the Selkirk Biz Black Friday Weekend event has continued to not only attract locals but also bring people from outside the community to the Triple S Area. About half of the winners of the grand prize have been from outside the region. Area businesses continue to compete for shopping dollars and really appreciate it when local consumers shop local. Statistics say that a dollar spent locally will be spent another seven times in the same community. It’s never been more important to keep your spending close to home.
