Selkirk’s first alcohol-free drink shop opens

Date:

Nobüz Market now open at 244 Manitoba Ave.

Selkirk’s first non-alcoholic drink market officially opened its doors on July 4, offering a variety of alcohol-free wine, beer, mocktails and spirits.

Nobüz Market is located at 244 Manitoba Ave. and is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Owned by local resident Holly Douglas, the shop brings a fresh option to the downtown business scene.

“The non-alcoholic market is a growing industry. There are more and more people looking for alcohol alternatives, both young and old,” Douglas said. “Younger generations are looking for fun drinks without alcohol in them, and there are lots of people who are sober or sober curious.”

Douglas describes herself as an occasional drinker, but is often the designated driver.

“I want to show people that there are options to have an alcohol-free, healthy and fun time with friends—beyond just opting for water or pop. Designated drivers should be able to have a fun drink. This opens up opportunities for people.”

Nobüz Market carries a range of local, national and international products, offering a wider selection than what’s typically found in grocery stores. Douglas says many of her offerings taste just as good as their alcoholic counterparts. Some of the name brands currently available include Farmery Brewery, Sober Carpenter and Budweiser Zero.

“I’m always looking for new products to bring into the store based on feedback from customers about what they want to see,” she added. “I’m also looking to expand my selection of Manitoba breweries—it would be great to offer more locally sourced products.”

Douglas’ vision for Nobüz Market began in 2024, one year after she sold Selkirk’s Dairy Queen.

“I was itching to do something else, so I started looking for a location and came across this building on Manitoba Avenue. Things have been rolling from there.”

A grand opening date will be announced at a later time, as Douglas continues to settle in and get familiar with her products and clientele.

“The reception so far has been very positive. People are excited for alternatives to alcohol and to have choices. It’s not easy being sober, but I’m hoping Nobüz can be here for anyone.”

One of her long-term goals is to offer non-alcoholic wine tastings for weddings and socials.

“Anything that gives people the chance to have a choice is the biggest thing for me. I’m trying to gather as much feedback as I can from others so I can supply what they’re looking for.”

Free samples are available in-store for anyone curious to try her selection. Those looking to get in touch can follow @nobuzmarket on Instagram, email info@nobuzmarket.ca, or call 204-904-9793.
