Celebrating four decades of firefighters in Rosser

Date:

Celebrating a legacy of courage and commitment, the RM of Rosser Fire Department recently marked an incredible 40 years of service to the community. On Sept. 21, friends, families, and community members gathered at the fire hall to honour this remarkable milestone. The event recognized decades of hard work and dedication by countless volunteers. It was a momentous occasion that showcased history and hope as they look forward to many more years of protecting their fellow citizens.

RM of Rosser Reeve, Ken Mulligan took a moment to reflect on the legacy left by the late Carl Simonson and Les Lillebo, who laid the foundation for this vital community service four decades ago. Their vision and determination gave rise to an organization synonymous with bravery and commitment.

“This is a celebration of commitment, sacrifice and community spirit,” Mulligan stated. “For four decades, the members of the department have put their lives on the line to protect our families, our homes and our land. There is no greater sacrifice then to run towards danger, when others flee from it.”

Mulligan’s words highlighted appreciation and recognition of how far the department has come since its inception.

Fire Chief Mike Palmer read some inserts from a 1984 log book and the names of the original volunteer firefighters. He thanked his crew for their continued dedication to the department, which isn’t just about responding to emergencies.

Firefighter Mark Hagidiakow stood before the crowd, his gratitude evident. After 15 years with the RM of Rosser Fire Department, his connection to the team runs deep.

“When you spend so much time with the guys, they become family; it is truly a brotherhood; these guys have become my best friends.”

Lakeside MLA Trevor King acknowledged the strong foundation of the RM of Rosser Fire Department, which currently boasts 30 dedicated members. He congratulated them on their commitment and pride in protecting their community.
