Mercs set for SEMHL season start

Date:

The Warren Mercs are ready to lace up for another season in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League (SEMHL), as the 2025–26 campaign gets underway later this month.

Warren will open the season on the road Wednesday, Oct. 29, when they face the Notre Dame Hawks. The Mercs will then return to home ice for their home opener on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 4:15 p.m., hosting the Île des Chênes Northstars at Warren Arena.

This year’s SEMHL features nine teams — Carman, Île des Chênes, Morden, Notre Dame, Portage, Red River, Springfield, Warren and Winkler — each playing an 18-game regular-season schedule (nine home and nine away). The league will again run through Feb. 7, followed by a full playoff bracket.

All teams will qualify for the postseason, beginning with an 8th-vs-9th-place Survivor Series to decide who moves on to face the top seed. The playoffs will continue with best-of-five series in the first and second rounds, before concluding with a best-of-seven championship final.

“The competition gets stronger every year,” said [coach/player name]. “We’ve got a solid group back this season and a few new faces who’ll fit right in. Our fans always make Warren Arena an exciting place to play, and we’re ready to get going.”

Local supporters will have plenty to cheer about this season as the Mercs chase another deep playoff run in one of Manitoba’s most competitive senior men’s leagues.

Next Games:

Wed., Oct. 29 – Warren at Notre Dame, 8:00 p.m.

Sun., Nov. 2 – Île des Chênes at Warren, 4:15 p.m. (Home Opener)
