A pair of toe-tapping cousins are ready to get youngsters moving and grooving through their upcoming dance classes at Grosse Isle Hall.
Miss Georgia and Miss Luca, both 12 years old, will be sharing their dance skills in two programs designed for young dancers.
“We are offering a class for three- to five-year-olds called Creative Movement. This is all about learning some basic dance moves through games and fun,” Miss Georgia said.
“We are doing a class for six- to seven-year-olds that will still have lots of fun in it but also start teaching more technical basics to dance. We are going to have a portion of the classes in tap shoes too.”
Classes start on Saturday, Oct. 11 and run for eight Saturdays.
“We wanted families to have the opportunity to try dance without a big commitment,” Miss Luca said. “We will likely do a winter session if there is interest before our own dance competition season gets busy.”
The cousins, whose moms are twins, will be able to relate to their students since they know first-hand what it’s like to be a young dancer — and their moms also grew up dancing together.
“We both started dancing when my mom ran a dance class out of our community hall when we were four,” Miss Georgia said. “We then danced in Stonewall before the pandemic. Now, we dance at a studio in the city and do all types of dance — tap, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, ballet, pointe, acro and musical theatre.”
For Miss Georgia, her favourite dance styles are tap, jazz and pointe, while Miss Luca loves hip hop, lyrical and jazz the most.
“We have a really close group of people that we dance with. We spend a lot of time together and the friendships we have made are very special,” Miss Luca said.
“We also love the thrill of competing in all styles. It’s a thrill getting up on stage and performing for a crowd.”
Limited space is still available in the Creative Movement class for kids aged three to five from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m., as well as in the Tap and Jazz class for kids aged six to eight from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. The cost is $90 per dancer, and tap shoes are required for both classes.
