A Traverse Bay man has now been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal shooting in Teulon earlier last week.
Donavin Skogan, 24, was arrested on July 16 and charged with second-degree murder and intimidation of a justice system participant. He remains in custody and was scheduled to appear in court last Thursday.
Skogan had previously been charged on July 14 with numerous firearms-related and driving offences. At that time, he was also remanded into custody.
The charges stem from a fatal shooting on the evening of July 13. Stonewall RCMP responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on 7th Avenue SE in Teulon at approximately 10:40 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a 37-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His death was being investigated as a homicide.
While police remained at the scene, another RCMP officer attempted to stop a vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting. The suspect vehicle fled, leading to a pursuit that ended when it drove into a cornfield. The area was contained and the RCMP Emergency Response Team was called in.
A 24-year-old man, the lone occupant of the vehicle, was arrested without incident. Police say a firearm was located and seized.
RCMP say no other suspects are being sought at this time.
Stonewall RCMP, along with RCMP Major Crime Services and Forensic Identification Services, continue to investigate.
